George Hatch raised a large family of seven boys and five girls in the sandhills of northwestern Nebraska. One Sunday morning a neighbor rushed over to help the Hatches get the new-mown hay into the barn; clouds were rolling up in the West, and it was quite apparent that a rainstorm was imminent. Hatch, "but this is Sunday, and I am going to take my family to church.
Hatch, "I lost my hay, but I saved my family. George Hatch did save his family. Today, down into the third and fourth generations, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are workers in the kingdom. Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" Matt.
I grew up with the notion that Sunday was the only day people had left to enjoy themselves. It was OK to forego church and do as one pleased, mow the lawn, take a short trip, visit relatives, sleep late, wash the car, etc.
However, when God saved me, He also changed my perception of Sunday. Of the 10 Commandments given to mankind, only this one is not repeated in the New Testament. Many have concluded that since we are no longer under the restrictions of the Sabbath, and we aren't. There are some aspects of this 4 th Commandment that I feel are relevant to us today. Before man sinned, he was given work to do, Gen. This intention is clearly stated in 1 Thes.
Man is called upon to get to work and to be busy! Work and the ability to work, are blessings from the hand of the Heavenly Father! Our bodies were never designed to work constantly, but we were made to have a season of rest. What is permitted on Sunday? Anything that refreshes and rests the body for the upcoming work week. What is forbidden? Anything that does not allow one to be rested and refreshed.

Today, we are not under the bondage of the Law, but under the liberty of grace! However, God still expects us to maintain that one day out of every seven to rest for His glory and your health. When God finished His great work in Creation. He paused to rest and reflect upon all that He had done, Gen. Therefore He Himself set the pattern that we are to follow. Sunday is an excellent day to begin preparing our spirit, heart and mind for the week ahead!
He expected man to keep this day holy. He still expects man to keep 1 out of 7 for His glory and honor! The Jews too this Commandment very seriously. Whereas, they took God's command to rest on the Sabbath seriously, as the years passed they added their own rules and regulations about the Sabbath. There were approximately 1, things that were not permissible on the Sabbath.
For example: you could not rescue a drowning person on the Sabbath. Untying knots that needed only one hand was permissible, but if two hands were required, it was forbidden. If a man's ox fell into the ditch, he could pull it out, but if the man fell in, he had to stay there.
One could take a sup of vinegar for food, but if he took a sup in order to help his aching toothache, he had broken the Sabbath.Young adults are at risk of developing obesity, especially when transitioning into university life as they become responsible for their daily eating and lifestyles. A total of students participated. Data was collected from January to April Self-designed questionnaires comprised questions pertaining to current weight, self-reported height data, information on eating habits, exercise and knowledge of the food pyramid.
The majority ate regular daily meals, but more than half skipped breakfast. Frequent snacking, fried food consumption at least three times per week and low intake of daily fruits and vegetables were common.
Almost all students are aware of balanced nutrition and the food pyramid. Most university students had poor eating habits, although the majority had good nutrition knowledge. By way of recommendation, the university is encouraged to provide a multi-disciplinary team specialising in health promotion that includes nutrition and physical activity programmes to increase the awareness among the university students.
Ina global burden of obesity stated that It predicts that this percentage would likely increase to This alarming rise has attracted the attention and concern of from the public because obesity is a recognised risk factor for numerous non-communicable diseases NCDs such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and stroke 2.
The problems associated with obesity affect not only the adult population but also the youth. Although the onset and development of obesity are most apparent during childhood 5university students also undergo a critical period when their behaviours are conducive to change often resulting in weight gain 6. These groups of individuals are at higher risk of developing unhealthy eating behaviours with inadequate nutrient intake, as shown by Gan et al.
Some of these behaviours include irregular meals, not eating breakfast, reduced fruit and vegetable intake and increased consumption of fried food 6. Apart from the change in dietary habits, poor exercising habits, bad time management and the increasing amount of stress from school work also contribute to weight gain 9.
The improper eating habits developed during this stage of life can continue into adulthood. Studying the change in dietary habits and lifestyle practices among university students can help educate them on the importance of preventing early development of obesity by adopting healthy lifestyles.
It is hoped that this study can increase the awareness of healthy lifestyle and eating among young adults, thereby reducing the risks of developing chronic diseases. A cross-sectional study was conducted through self-administered questionnaires in Malay and English from February to March at the university.
A total of seven faculties were involved:. Data were collected from the students attending each faculty for three days. University students of all ages excluding international students were eligible for participation. Participation was voluntary with informed consent. A total of university students participated in the study. Please check the reference to make sure it is correct.
Old men and old women will again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of old age. Even if this should seem impossible in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it seem impossible in my eyes also? I am going to rescue my people from the land of the rising sun, and from the land of the setting sun. They will be my people, and I will be their God, e in faithfulness and justice.
Those who came and went were not safe from the enemy, for I set neighbor against neighbor. I will give all these things to the remnant of this people to possess. Just as I intended to harm you when your ancestors angered me—says the L ORD of hosts—and I did not relent, 15 so again in these days I intend to favor Jerusalem and the house of Judah; do not fear!

Jewish Practice. Rashi 's Commentary :. Show Hide. Show content in:.The section has two major themes: 1 The tension between Jesus and the religious leaders. This section has much to say about welcoming or rejecting Jesus and his disciples, who serve as his emissaries:.
They went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him. Such an interpretation has added force because of the many Elijah-Jesus parallels in this Gospel. Jesus determines to go to Jerusalem. His commitment in the face of Jerusalem danger helps us to understand the demands that he will place on would-be followers in verses Jerusalem is where Jesus will die. Luke will keep reminding us ; ; ; ; that Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem, which is a veiled way of saying that he is on his way to his death.
Luke will introduce a similar journey motif in the Acts of the Apostles, his sequel to the Gospel of Luke:.
This is the only place where the Gospels mention Samaritans negatively. Both are messengers Their refusal is not surprising, because there is a good deal of animosity between Jews and Samaritans. This began centuries earlier when Assyrians took most Jews into captivity and re-populated Samaria with foreigners who intermarried with remaining Samaritan Jews. Samaritans became known for pagan worship 2 Kingsand Jews regarded them as tainted racially and religiously.
When Zerubbabel led the return from exile to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, he rebuffed Samaritan offers to help. Samaritans then built a rival temple on Mount Gerazim and tried to prevent the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem Ezra Jews often travel through Samaria—many of them pilgrims going to or returning from the Jerusalem temple—a temple whose validity the Samaritans do not acknowledge.
Mark portrays James and John as personally ambitious—asking Jesus to grant them seats on his right and left in his kingdom Mark ; see also Matthew Their request alludes to the story of Ahaziah, son of Ahab and Jezebel and ruler over Israel in Samaria 1 Kings When Ahaziah sent soldiers to seize Elijah, he called down fire from heaven to consume them—and did the same once again when Ahaziah sent more soldiers 2 Kings 1.
Rebuked epetimesen is a strong word. Elsewhere in this Gospel Jesus rebukes demons41;feversand stormsbut never disciples. Jesus responds strongly to James and John because he has instructed them to love their enemies and not to judge others Jesus has also given the disciples explicit instructions on how to deal with rejection.
When rejected, they are to shake dust from their feet as a testimony against the rejecters ; see also —but are not to respond with violence or vengeance. James and John failed to listen. Most scholars treat these words as a later scribal addition.
Zechariah - Chapter 8
Most translations omit them. Jesus models the behavior that he expects of the disciples when they experience rejection. Jesus, who is moving toward Jerusalem synonymous with the crossoffers no easy discipleship. In these verses, he clarifies the extreme nature of his call.
Those who would follow him must first count the cost, because they will share his suffering. They must not give anything—even good things—priority over Jesus. Once again, Elijah provides a model for these three stories. There are, however, two significant differences between that story and the one told here by Luke:. The second and third would-be disciples ask leave to take care of other priorities before beginning their discipleship.South African celebrities are partnered with professional Latin and Ballroom dancers and must work each week on perfecting a dance routine.
Each week during a live show viewers are asked to vote for their favourite couple, and one couple with the fewest votes is eliminated. In the season finale, two couples dance off to win the title and a cash prize of R40, R20, per partner. The cash prize was first introduced for the third season. Through sms voting, viewers vote who should stay and who should go, the results of the poll being combined with the ranking of the panel of judges. For example: with 4 contestants left, the judges' favourite would receive 4 points, 2nd favourite 3 points, and so on, and similarly with the viewers' rankings.
The two scores added together make the final score. A second season was ordered immediately based on the success of the first, and began just four months later, in August. In the second season, eight new South African celebrities coupled up with their own professional dancers and attempted to win the ballroom dancing showdown.
Celebrities for the season included soapie actors, a kwaito muso, a handyman, a beauty queen, a radio jock and a soccer star. Featuring eight new celebrity dancers who strutted their stuff with their professional dance partners, the show was broadcast in a new time and date format.
Instead of being on Saturday nights between and as previous seasons were, the show was on Thursday nights at for an initial hour episode in which each couple performed their dance for the week. There was an hour break from to give viewers time to vote and the show resumed for a half an hour results episode at It was the first season of the show that the winning couple had won a cash prize.
The celebrity contestants included an Olympic medalist, a journalist, a rapper, an Afrikaans music superstar and a wildlife television host. It was won by actor Emmanuel Castis and his partner Lindsey Muckle.
The first part — was where the contestants showed off their various dancing talents and the second part where the results were revealed. A new system called the dance-off was introduced in the fourth season.
The Dance-Off is performed by the two couples with the lowest scores following the judges' scores and public vote. After performing their dance again, the judges are asked one-by-one who they would like to save, and the couple with the most votes remains in the competition. If there is a tie, head judge Lilian Phororo has the deciding vote. There are 10 episodes in the fifth season. It was preceded by a one-hour special, Strictly Come Dancing: The Story So Faron Thursday 25 September, which took a retroactive look at past seasons and previewed the fifth season.
A major change to the show this season came in the form of 10 couples who competed over 10 weeks — in past seasons eight couples competed over eight weeks. Live episodes are aired on Fridays from towith the results show airing the following day at The results show is recorded directly after the live show.

The judgment has occurred, and the prisoner is sentenced. But in this case there is no condemnation. When does that happen? How so?
Implicitly because of justification, a dominant theme earlier in the letter. We could quit right now, and the preacher may well decide to do so. Five minutes in the office or in someone's living room remind the pastor that many people feel condemned by God. They know they are sinners and see no way out. Verse 1 is a powerful opening for addressing that burden. Second, the source of misunderstanding. Our text uses several times the word fleshmaking what seem to be almost nonsensical statements such as "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God" verse 8.
If that is the reality, why even try to live in God-pleasing ways? The key is what Paul means by flesh sarks. To understand his usage, we turn first to its apparent twin, body soma.First Secure Your Own Oxygen Mask (Zechariah 8:20-23)
For Paul the body is neither good nor bad in and of itself. The issue is how the body is used. When the body is used as God intended, the body is good. But when the body is used inappropriately and opposed to God's intention, it is for Paul a sinful body. Paul's shorthand expression for a body that is misused is the term flesh. And so to live inappropriately is called living according to the flesh kata sarka.
With that understanding in mind, we turn again to the passage. In verses Paul discusses the new life. The Christ-believer has been set free "from the law of sin and of death. What God did, in a nice play on words, was to condemn sin itself. God did that by sending God's "own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. He was only in the likeness of sinful flesh. Christ was a full human being; he had and was a human body. But he did not misuse his body by sinning and therefore he was, by Paul's definition, never flesh.
Thus "he was only in the likeness of sinful flesh" but never sinful himself see 2 Corinthians In part because of that he was able to be a sin offering, condemning sin in the flesh.
One result of the death of Jesus was the fulfillment of the law in and for those "who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Today we say, "she not only talks the talk, she also walks the walk.
In verses Paul delves further into the old life. Once more flesh and Spirit are contrasted. The language Paul uses is that of mindset.
